San Miguel Beermen is on the brink of accomplishing something rare, winning a grand-slam. Actually, they could accomplish a rarer thing because they will be the first franchise to do the grand-slam, more than once.
With a lot of stakes on the table, a lot of fans are rumbling about the Ginebra clearing the way for their big brother.
Roster-wise and even in terms of pedigree, Ginebra is currently the biggest challenge to the goal of the Beermen. They will welcome back Greg Slaughter who should complete a monstrous five of Slaughter-Aguilar-Brownlee-Thompson-Tenorio.
So, the question is, how big is the chance that the SMC management will pressure the most popular basketball club in the country into helping the Beermen?
I will go around 60%. Remember how popular was the San Mig Coffee Mixers' run to grandslam? I am pretty sure that put a lot of money and goodwill to the brand for years to come.
SMC is in the PBA, primarily to help their brand. You may say that another unsuccessful run for Ginebra could hurt them but their 8 years drought had disproved that.
But, there is a greater point that is needed to be said. If Ginebra stop San Miguel from achieving the feat, that could be another big boost to their popularity and another feather to their cap.
To end, let us not also forget the fact that San Miguel is still the heavy favorites for this conference. Their core is at his prime and their bench is so deep. The fact is, they may not even need any help from the Kings to do it!
