NLEX-PHX-GBP Trade Analysis - Yeng's Allure

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Cyrus Baguio and coach Yeng Guiao had a lot of history together. They will continue that as Cyrus request to be traded to NLEX was consummated.

Cyrus Baguio was the biggest name in the trade and Phoenix got the right amount of return for him.

Let us check each team.

TEAM ANALYSIS
Globalport Batang Pier
Sent Dylan Ababou
Received Mac Baracael

Globalport basically swap a guy that they are barely using for someone that fits them better. Mac Baracael can play both forward position, same as Sean Anthony. What makes this an excellent move for GBP was the fact that Mac will bring shooting to both position.

In his first game with the team, Mac was used for 25 minutes and his presence was surely felt with his +6 in the floor. He scored 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers.

NLEX Road Warriors
Sent Mac Baracael and 2020 2nd
Received Cyrus Baguio

Father time is beginning to catch up with Baguio. Fortunately, he has morphed himself into a credible shooter. He is shooting 38% from beyond the arc. Coach Yeng had been reluctant to used Baracael so getting someone who will beef up his wing was a wise decision.

We will also need to consider the fact that he will be a mentor to Alex Mallari and Kevin Alas. If he helps Alas in unlocking the other facets of his game, this will a golden move.

Phoenix Fuel Masters
Sent Cyrus Baguio
Received Dylan Ababou and NLEX 2020 2nd

With the arrival of Jeff Chan, it was just necessary that they moved a high-paid but already old, Cyrus Baguio. Dylan Ababou is the forever reclamation project but their high three-pointer usage style could be the key to finally reaching his potential.

Overall, Phoenix traded two of their 2nd rounders to acquire Cyrus last year and now they received Dylan and NLEX 2020 2nd. So, two 2nd rounders for Dylan and 2020 2nd of NLEX? Not that impressive.
