The coaches, players and officials are not the only one heating up about the current TNT-Ginebra series. Their fans in social media are also on war of words due to one controversial factor, the officiating.
A lot of TNT fans pointed to some key fouls that were not called on Ginebra and some questionable calls against them. The disparity in free-throws was also pointed out as Ginebra took 43 free-throws against the 14 of TNT.
Coach Tim defended that by saying that his team is more aggressive but coach Nash countered in pointing out the aggressiveness too of his team, especially Glen Rice. Fortunately for us, PBA.com.ph provides a shot chart!
So, this should be simple, right? If coach Tim is right, we should see the paint part of the chart of Ginebra darker than that of TNT.
Okay. Here it is.
The picture is not that clear, though. But, if we count the midrange shots of both teams and then deduct that to the total two-point attempts, we bring out the shots near the rim.
Ginebra shot 9 midrange shots compared to 20 of TNT. Meaning, Ginebra took 55 shots near the rim compared to the 41 shots of TNT! So, there is a 14 shot differences! So, is 14 shots difference equitable to 29 free-throw shots disparity?
