Don't look now, but another chapter has been added to the Ginebra-Meralco fiasco.
It was a do-or-die game for the Bolts, who were trying to remain alive for a playoff birth. Ginebra went to that game, trying to make sure that they avoid a twice-to-beat disadvantage.
It went down to the last second, as Meralco's unsung heroes carried them to the victory.
Another loss by Ginebra could send them to the 7th-8th place.
Even though the rivalry had been one-sided in the Governors Cup finals, 2-0 by Ginebra. This is the kind of victory that Meralco can make to, at least, put a little dent on the prestige of Ginebra.
In the past 15 years, the league had been living of the Ginebra-Purefoods rivalry. There was a 2-3 years period when that rivalry was the primary reason, why the league was still getting some income.
A new rivalry is brewing.
It is the war of the unknowns and the ruling kings. The competition of an up-and-coming squad and a well-establish contender. And the struggle of the poor unproven kids and the rich successful children.
Imagine Meralco completing an unprecedented comeback in the playoff race and find a way to meet Ginebra on the semifinals or even finals?
The squad who was love because of their so-called Never Say Die spirit, will be the unanimous favorite. Everyone will expect them to win.
So in that dream series, every win by Meralco will pump the excitement and possibility, that the favorite DAVID will turn into the GOLIATH, that will loss to the new DAVID.
