Even though they have a good team, I doubt the majority of us expected Magnolia to finish at the top of the standings.
Their good record was the product of good coaching, experience and good chemistry. Magnolia is playing against the trend, by starting a lot of plays at the post.
With Ian Sangalang and Marc Pingris, that worked pretty well. Both are pretty good in finding their open teammates, and punishing unworthy defenders.
And their defense? It was lockdown. With its energy and its size, opponents experienced hell against them.
But in the playoffs, they really need one Hotshot to step up. He is the player that need to click for them in each series. Or else, other teams can exploit their weaknesses.
I am talking about Aldrech Ramos.
Why?
Because they do not have any other stretch-big. Not only that, their bigs are not that reliable on long twos. Meaning, teams can actually pack the paint and make it hard for them.
So, Aldrech Ramos badly needs to hit his outside shots. For every three-pointers he hit, the bigger the space that his teammates can work with.
He will also be a great pick-and-pop partner for their guards, because he will magnetize the defense. Providing a more complicated puzzle for their opponent.
I don't see Magnolia winning the crown, if Aldrech Ramos will not average around 1.5 three-pointers made per game, in the playoffs.
