One of the hardest thing to quantify is patience. The bigger the benefit that you will receive, the longer you will wait. That could be the reason why Ginebra is still retaining Greg Slaughter.
Trading the tallest player in the league, who had shown an impact that can be at par with a Junemar Fajardo, could be laughable. But, what if the return is another star?
Another thing that is hard to do, is to end rocky relationships.
Terrence Romeo and Globalport had been on the middle of some rumors and controversies all throughout the last two years. And with their performance this conference, did that further prove the hypothesis that Terrence Romeo is benefiting more, in playing with Globalport, than Globalport in having him in the line-up?
GINEBRA WITHOUT SLAUGHTER
They won a championship! And they just competed against San Miguel Beermen in a five-game affair. Yes, that was a 4-1, but they should have won that game 2, right?
I just feel like, Ginebra as a team, is having a hard time forming a legitimate identity, because they have a very slow but impactful player, that goes in and out from the line-up.
They play a different style of basketball if he is injured. They play a quicker and more modern version of the triangle. Maybe, if they finally move-on from him, the players can start to develop familiarity and chemistry within that system.
GLOBALPORT WITHOUT ROMEO
They are the top scoring team in the league. They combine that with their rebounding prowess, also top 1 in the league. A high scoring team with elite rebounding is a team worth watching. And if you saw how they play, they are on the right path.
Their system is a combination of brute force and three-point shooting. They want to be physical inside and throw and throw long bombs. Mathematically, that is the right way to do it. And Stanley Pringle is the right star to lead them.
SO?
Why not just exchange. Terrence Romeo will form a star-studded guard and wing rotation with Scottie Thompson and LA Tenorio. Don't worry about defense. They have length in the frontline to minimize their size disadvantage.
And Globalport? They will further solidify their control inside. Imagine Slaughter with Nabong. Slaughter will post inside, as Nabong do his dirty works in the outside. If they go to the shaded lane together, there will be little space for their opponents.
I just think that a swap is an ideal fit for both teams. I doubt they will do it, but we can dream.
