Now that the names of the "Filipino-Foreigners" who will join the draft are set, we have a much clearer picture of the upcoming draft.
It is the turn now of the local players to put their names into the pool. Knowing that the potential draftees at the start of the season are still in play, let us shake out mock draft!
#1 Columbian- CJ Perez (#4 in Last Mock Draft)
We are all hoping that Columbian will not make the same mistake that they did in the 2017 draft. With the recent news, it seems like the Dyip has heard us. They already told the media that they are drafting Perez and, the bigger news, will keep him.
Both pronouncements are plain pronouncements up to this point until they make it a reality.
#2 Blackwater- Bobby Ray Parks Jr. (#1 in Last Mock Draft)
Blackwater will be more than happy with the 2nd pick and add Parks to their brewing wealth of talent. If Blackwater will be the one to draft Parks, there is a good chance that he will be happy and stay with the franchise.
Why?
The core of Mac Belo, JP Erram, Nard Pinto, Michael DiGregorio, Raymar Jose and Parks could be the next great elite team, , no pun intended, that the league will see.
#3 Meralco - Abu Tratter (#6 in Last Mock Draft)
I will not be shocked if I am the biggest blogger and analyst fan of Abu Tratter. The guy will not amaze you with his statistical production. But if you watch the guy play, Tratter is always doing the right thing on both ends of the court.
Meralco badly needs a bigman. Tratter could end up as the undisputed best big of this upcoming class. Drafting Bollick could be very enticing but with Newsome, Lanete, Tolomia and Amer, Meralco is already so loaded in the guard and wing spot. What they need is a center.
#4 Northport - Robert Bollick (#3 in Last Mock Draft)
Mr. Romero should rejoice because for not ending up with CJ Perez, they came out with Robert Bollick. Bollick will actually be a better fit to North Port because of the rise of Jonathan Grey and Paolo Taha. Bollick is a respectable shooter which is a better fit to Stanley Pringle and Grey.
#5 Phoenix - Owen Graham (#8 in Last Mock Draft)
Phoenix is also looking for frontliners. Unfortunately, this draft class is lacking in terms of size. Graham though is an athletic freak who can play the center position in the right match-up. With his athleticism, he is also a capable switch-defender, which is an amazing fit with Calvin Abueva and Matthew Wright.
Playing the three together in the middle of the line-up, could bring out the best modern basketball team in the league.
#6 NLEX - Alvin Pasaol (New!)
I see coach Yeng going with the best non-guard available. In terms of name recognition, Pasaol could be that guy. Other than the fact that Pasaol will have the best pedigree of all the available players, coach Yeng could also be lured by the similarity of Pasaol and Nelson Asaytono. A fatty scorer who is ferocious in driving to the basket. Coach Yeng can make that player a monster.
#7 Rain or Shine- Andre Paras (#7 in Last Mock Draft)
Andre Paras once trained with the Elasto Painters. I am pretty sure the bigman is in the radar of the Elasto Painters. It is just fitting if they end up with Paras, who in showbiz, because Chris Tiu, another player who is in showbiz, is bound to retire.
#8 Rain or Shine - Bong Quinto (#10 in Last Mock Draft)
With their second pick, Rain or Shine may go with the most popular name available. That is Bong Quinto who was the 2nd player to post multiple triple-doubles in the NCAA after Scottie Thompson. Quinto led the league in assists and he was not a point guard.
In short, Quinto was the best playmaking wing in the NCAA this season. And Rain or Shine may need that because they have a lot of mouths to feed in offense.
#9 Alaska - Aris Dionisio (#9 in Last Mock Draft)
The frontline rotation of Alaska is still shaky. Sonny Thoss is getting older and older and closer to retirement. They have not found a viable replacement for him and may not found that guy in this draft. I believe Dionisio is the best available bigman at this point and Alaska should be able to see that.
#10 Magnolia - Kris Porter (#11 in Last Mock Draft)
Magnolia is looking for the partner of Ian Sangalang. Rafi Reavis and Marc Pingris are already injury-prone and will soon succumb to father time. Porter has a good size and the ability to hit 3s. I do not think he has the strength to play center full-time but with his shooting ability, he can easily play the 4.
#11 Columbian - JV Mocon (New!)
According to reports, Columbian is looking for a bigman after their #1 pick. At this point, they can settle with Mocon who is a forward, capable of playing the 4. Mocon is a do-it-all player who averaged 12.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the current season of NCAA.
#12 Phoenix - JJ Alejandro (New!)
If Phoenix is looking to upgrade at their point guard spot, Alejandro could be their guy. He is an all-around point guard who fills up the stat sheet. He has a good combination of strength, agility and speed. If he gets the right amount of opportunity, he could be the biggest steal of this draft.
