Coach Yeng Guiao is not happy with their performance in the 2018 PBA season. They reached the semifinals of the Philippine Cup. Then, failed to advance in the playoffs in the Commissioner's Cup. Lastly, they only managed a quarterfinals appearance in the Governors' Cup.
In reality, that kind of season should be satisfying for a young rebuilding franchise. Coach Yeng has set a higher standard though. He showed that with this statement.
"We just felt that we are too amateurish, parang we are not playing at the level of competition."
So, coach Yeng Guiao has decided to look for a quality big man and his #1 asset to get that player is their 2018 1st round pick that is projected to be the 6th pick.
They are looking for a bigman because their backcourt of the present and of the future is already set with Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas. They also have a deep wing rotation. What they need is a quality bigman.
So, who are the guys that they can target?
RAYMOND ALMAZAN
It is true that Rain or Shine doesn't want to let him go. But, the rumor says that the Dark Knight wants out. What if NLEX offered them the #6 pick and two of their other NLEX players except for Kiefer and Kevin?
Michael Miranda and Raul Soyud may not be starting caliber but they can provide quality minutes playing in the frontline. Getting these two could also be a good cost-saving move for the Painters that has a frontline that is getting expensive.
KELLY NABONG
I do not think there is a more perfect coach and center pairing than Nabong and coach Yeng. Kelly Nabong has never found a home franchise because of his "proven" attitude problem.
The coach that can handle that is coach Yeng. Actually, I think coach Yeng will actually love the attitude of Nabong in the court.
I also believe that coach Yeng saw the continues improvement of Kelly. He now has a functional three-point shot. And that is a must for the bigs of coach Yeng.
Will San Miguel say no to the #6 pick of the upcoming draft? I doubt it.
