Outside shooting, especially three-point shots, is the most valuable skill in the league today. Three-point shooting is actually easy to check. The three-point percentage will never lie. It is the percentage of long bombs that a shooter hits.
Knowing that 33.3% means 50% in two-point field-goal, we can say that 33.3% is the acceptable rate.
Who are the three most hyped shooters who did not meet that percentage this season?
Allein Maliksi
With his beautiful strokes, it is easy to conclude that Maliksi is a shooter. He is not this season. In the three conferences, Maliksi averaged more than 3 attempts. He only made 31% this conference and Commissioner's Cup and 27% in the Philippine Cup.
His shooting woes could also be the reason why his minutes were not stable for the season.
RR Pogoy
When he entered the draft last season, he was anointed as one, if not the best shooter in the class. It seems like, his shooting is more of a potential than a current skill.
For the three conferences, he averaged more than 3 attempts per game. He shot below 30% in all three conferences. The worst was in the Philippine Cup when he only connected in 16% of his tries. And that was beyond unacceptable.
Justin Brownlee
When you are still dreaming about his patented pull-up winning three-pointer against Meralco, it is hard to accept that Brownlee is not a shooter. He is also moving and acting like a legit sniper in-games. He is attempting 6 or more in both conferences.
Unfortunately, he only connected on 21% in the Commissioner's Cup and 30% this Governors' Cup. Maybe, that is not that important because he was actually reliable when he was needed the most.
