These Players Are NOT Eligible for the 2018 Draft

(c) Asean Basketball League

A lot of people in the PBA universe is still naive about the draft rules and eligibilities of the PBA. So, let us clear things up by naming the top prospects who are not allowed to join the upcoming draft.

First things first are the guys who will not be allowed because the deadline for Fil-Foreigners has already passed.

FIL-FOREIGN DEADLINE
Jason Brickman, Troy Rike and Avery Scharer are all born outside the Philippines. The rule of the PBA in terms of determining who are the Fil-Foreigners is simple. If you are born outside the country, you are a Fil-Foreigner.

Troy Rike has the potential to be the most promising big in the 2018 class. So, I think a lot of teams were disappointed that he did not apply.

ABL
A lot of people are also excited about the Fil-Foreigners playing in the Asean Basketball League. Other than the deadline for Fil-Foreigners, there are other eligibilities that they are not meeting.

What is it?

Draft applicants should play in the PBA D-League for a certain amount of games. Joshua Munzon, Caleb Tiongson and Lawrence Domingo have not met that.

If they will play again in the upcoming ABL season, it means they will not apply for the 2018 D-League draft. That means they will not be able to join the D-League's upcoming season and will not be eligible again for the 2019 draft.

Fortunately, we have a good news!

The PBA board will meet this month and one of the agenda is regarding draft eligibility. There is a chance that the league will loosen it up which will make it much easier for players to join the draft.
