"Did you see Allen Iverson out there?" That was the question of coach Jimmy Alapag after Alab Pilipinas managed to come from an 11-points deficit to get the W against Macau Black Bears, 101-96.
So, who was that Allen Iverson like? He is Mikh McKinney who toyed with the defense of Alab in coming up with 50 points. He did that in a very efficient fashion, shooting 17/29 from the field and 7/13 from beyond the arc.
Actually, Mikh also torched Alab in their previous game last February 27, going for 40 points, in 13/24 shooting and 5/8 from beyond the arc.
I hope you now understand the Allen Iverson comparison?
Coach Jimmy further added, "I’ve been around this game for a long time and I’ve seen a lot of good point guards, he's up there on top."
That is another crazy claim by Jimmy Alapag, knowing that he mentored Jayson Castro, played against LA Tenorio, Olsen Racela, JJ Helterbrand, Chris Ross and etc.
"He is just a big-time shot-maker. He competes for every possession. I know he plays for Macau but he has that Filipino spirit too." That was how coach Jimmy described him.
Which is true. McKinney is a big time shot-maker. He can hit the most lethal shot in basketball, a pull-up 3 and a plethora of other shots like a pull-up midranger. He also has the first step and the handle to blow by defenders and get into the rim.
There is no better proof of how cerebral he is but his 26.5 points per game average which is #1 right now in the ABL. He is averaging more points than the non-Asian imports like Renaldo Balkman (25.8 points, 2nd best) and Michael Singletary.
The next big question is, will he apply for the PBA draft this year, which could happen on January 2020?
He can, because he is already 28 years old by then, which will excuse him from the PBA D-league requirement.
