According to the chairman of the PBA board, Mr. Ricky Vargas,"you have to be 6-10 and below. We think he will not pass the height requirement. Mahirap na exception ‘yan... To get that exception is going to be difficult because if you do an exception today if he is 6-11, then what will stop us from the same precedence in the future.”
I agree with Mr. Vargas that allowing Blatche to play if he is overheight may cause complications in the future. Although, the reason for giving him an exception is actually pretty understandable and for me, easily defendable.
One statement from Mr. Vargas did not hit me the right way. He said, "while we want him to play with us and be with us, there are certain rules that we have to adhere to. Otherwise, it will really kill the PBA process."
It feels weird to be that the chairman of the PBA board is talking about adhering to rules when rumors are rampant about teams paying their players, under the table, and knowing the fact that the rules of the PBA are actually very raw, lacking explanation to some complicated matters.
Going back to Blatche, I do not think the PBA universe will have a problem if they totally remove the height limit. Those taller than seven-foot reinforcements actually attracts attention from casual PBA fans.
Nonetheless, the decision is not yet final so let us hope for the best.
