The 2019 Philippine Cup is almost over. That means, the draft order is as clear as ever. With Blackwater and Meralco at the top, what will happen on the draft?
Let us see.
#1 Blackwater - Joshua Munzon (#1 in Last Mock)
Joshua Munzon is the clear #1 in my eyes. Offensively, he has shown that he can do it all. He can breakdown the defense, hit pull-up midrange shots, hit pull-up three-pointers, move without the ball, drives to the basket, create for his teammates and etc. Just imagine if Blackwater punts this season and have Munzon and Bobby Ray Parks in the same team.
#2 Meralco - Isaac Go (#2 in Last Mock)
I am pretty sure Meralco will be happy to struggle this season if they will end up with the most promising local bigman of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Coach Tab Baldwin is busy molding Isaac into a capable international power forward and I believed coach Norman will be happy to utilize him as such.
#3 Columbian - Troy Rike (#4 in Last Mock)
What Thirdy brings to the court is not that different from what CJ Perez is already providing to Dyip. Thus, getting a bigman with this pick is a much better option. Rike is slowly embracing his bigman position in the Philippines and if he sustains that, he could be a viable option moving forward.
#4 NLEX - Thirdy Ravena (#3 in Last Mock)
It will be a dream draft for the MVP group if they can keep Thirdy Ravena and Isaac Go in their camp. Ravena will upgrade the wing position of NLEX right away. With his strength and athleticism, coach Yeng Guiao will have a weapon that is kinda new for him.
#5 Alaska - Santi Santillan (#6 in Last Mock)
Alaska will be enamored by the skill level of Santi and his blue-collar demeanor. Alaska loves those kinds of guys. Santi is not the fastest or the strongest but he knows how to maximize what he has and can play within a system really well.
#6 North Port - Roosevelt Adams (#7 in Last Mock)
Adams is slowly raising his name in our mock draft with his consistent showing in the PBA D-League. Other than his shooting, his rebounding has been a surprising elite skill. He has a good body and with good athleticism. He will be a nice addition to the wing of North Port.
#7 Magnolia - Arvin Tolentino (#9 in Last Mock)
This draft is so deep that Magnolia will have mouth-watering options even at the #7 pick. Jason Brickman is the Best Player Available at this point but with the depth of their point guard position, Magnolia will go with a versatile forward in Arvin.
#8 Columbian (From San Miguel)- Alvin Pasaol (#11 in Last Mock)
Dyip is the kind of franchise that will be enamored by the pedigree and crazy playing style of Alvin. By drafting a bigman with their #3 pick, they will be fine getting a scorer at this point. With him and CJ Perez in the same team, just imagine the craziness.
#9 TNT - Jason Brickman (#5 in Last Mock)
TNT will be in for a surprise to find the best point guard still available at #9. With father time slowly creeping into Jayson Castro, it is time to find his successor. Brickman had been the best point guard in the ASEAN Basketball League and has the skill set of a great quarterback.
#10 Ginebra - Mikhael McKinney (#8 in Last Mock)
Mikhael McKinney fell to Ginebra once again as his Fil-Am status and the fact that what he has done in the ABL may not mean that much will push him down in the draft. Nonetheless, Ginebra needs a guard who can score at will and shoot the lights out. They found the perfect guy.
#11 Rain or Shine - Larry Muyang (#10 in Last Mock)
Even though they have a solid frontline rotation, the majority of them will pass their prime soon. Thus, Muyang will be a good project for them. With at least a year of tutelage from Beau Belga and Jewel Ponferada, he should be ready to contribute and take over from them.
#12 Alaska (From Phoenix)- Sean Manganti (#12 in Last Mock)
Manganti is not helping himself with what he was exhibiting in the PBA D-League. Nonetheless, his combination of length, athleticism and shooting should still keep him at the 1st round of the draft.
I dont see alaska picking santi over adams.
