Should PBA replaced the All-Star Dunk Contest?

Every time the All-Star weekend happens, a lot of fans always asked this question. Is it time to replace the Slam Dunk contest with something else?

In this year's version, we saw Rey Guevarra just tied KG Canaleta's historical feat of having five Slam Dunk contest titles. He battled Renz Palma, Lervin Flores and CJ Perez.

Their dunks were respectable but it did lack something. Just like the NBA, the PBA's biggest problem with the slam dunk contest is the lack of star factor.

Yes, Rey Guevarra is a great dunker but in the eyes of the PBA universe, he is only an end-of-the-bench guy. It is good that Perez is on the contest but he may not even be one of the 25 most popular players in the league.

Just imagine how viral would have been the dunk of Renz Palma where he jumped over a few numbers of PBA players if that was done by, let us say, Calvin Abueva.

Last year, the contest was participated by Matt Rosser, Marion Magat, Palma, Guevarra, Flores, Corpuz, Newsome and Gabe Norwood.

Where are Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thomspon, Arwind Santos, Abueva and Troy Rosario?

Instead of replacing the Slam Dunk contest with something else, the first thing that PBA should do is to encourage their top stars to join the contest.

Maybe, the contests should be incorporated with their salaries. If they win the contest, their salary will increase for the year.

If that is not accepted, how about providing the hometown of the winner with a basketball training program?

Another possibility that they can do is for each team to have a representative and make it a two-day event. In the first day, all the 12 participants will do their two tries. The best six will remain to play a dunk-off the following day.

That way, you can build anticipation and will also provide the top 6 a day of preparation for their best dunks.

Overall, I do not think PBA should replace it. There is a big room for improvement and the PBA management need to see it.

  1. This is what I heard the other day when I was leaving my gym.

Two girls were chilling near the basketball court at the back of my gym complex. They were watching a 3-on-3 game which abruptly ended when the biggest guy decided to jump straight up, knock the defender flat on his ass and dunk on him while he was laying sprawled on the blacktop.

That's when the blonde cheekily whispered this confession to her smoking-hot Asian friend in pink sweatpants:

"Nothing's hotter than a guy who can dunk."

And can you guess what the Asian hottie replied? She whimpered:

    "Uh huhhh!"

This got me thinking. I mean, for as long as I can remember I've always wanted to dunk. It's been a lifelong dream of mine, but I really had no idea girls found it hot. I guess it makes sense though since most people have this belief you need to be the most athletic dude around to be able to jump that high.

But the fact is that's just not true anymore.

Breakthrough research has surfaced recently about the exact 'levers' which allow people to jump ridiculously high. So naturally, 2 genius basketball players took this research and used it to transform regular guys who can't even touch the rim into dudes who can dunk with 2 hands every time and with ease.

One of these geniuses is a pro basketball player and the other is the world's highest dunker (I think it's safe to say they know what they're doing LOL) They're getting a ton of media hype these days and blowing up on Youtube so I thought I'd let you know about them.

And it's great timing too since they've just released all their crazy vert jump body hacks and techniques. They've been teaching people this stuff in secret for years but now it's available to the public in a badass program.

It's pretty crazy stuff so check it out.
