An unwanted incident happened during the PBA game between Phoenix Fuel Masters and Blackwater Elite last Friday. Bobby Ray Parks was the first one to bring out the controversy when he said that Calvin Abueva cursed at his girlfriend, Maika Rivera, and called Maika a b*tch and the worst of all, made a masturbating gesturing in front of her.
Parks explained that those things should not be directed to the fans, to family and to love ones. Parks promised to talk to the commissioner this Saturday about the incident.
Parks added that he understands that Calvin plays a lot of antics and mind games but for him, Abueva went over the line when he did that to his fan, his girlfriend. The point of Parks was clear. He believed that what Abueva did was unprofessional and was uncalled for.
On the other hand, Calvin answered back through an Instagram live. He said that Maika and her friends were the first one to call his attention. It happened when Calvin fouled out with 11 seconds remaining in the game. Calvin said that Maika and her friends cursed at him and even made the f%ck you sign towards him. Calvin also said yes when asked if Maika called her a monkey.
Today, the Phoenix Fuel Masters gave Calvin a P20,000 fine for what he did although they agree with Abueva that Maika and her friends made provocative actions against The Beast before The Beast retaliated.
Phoenix believed though that Calvin should have exercised more prudence, more patience in simpler terms, and avoid making those gestures.
Overall, I think the picture was clear. Maika and her friends gave unnecessary words and gestures to Calvin and Calvin fired back. The question now is, do you think Calvin crossed the line with his answers to what Maika and her friends did? Basically, how far should professional basketball players apply prudence when they received bad and provoking remarks from fans?
