PBA fans, let us support Northport Batang Pier because...

they deserved it.

When I say Northport Batang Pier, I am not really pointing at the franchise itself. Although the franchise has been steady in their ways. They know what they are doing. They know that centers are the most crucial position in the league so they accumulated Moala Tautuaa, Joseph Gabayni, Lervin Flores and Bradwyn Guinto.

They are also good at developing players and giving them an opportunity. Just look at Jonathan Grey and Paolo Taha.

But this article is not really about the franchise, this is about the players. I am talking about Moala Tautuaa, Robert Bollick, Sean Anthony, Nico Elorde and the others.

Just looked at their game last Wednesday. They were down by 25 points. They entered the last quarter with 21 points deficit. And still, they managed to get the W.

Sol Mercado saw all of that and said in his twitter " These boys got some NSD spirit in them!"

I am asking for you to support them not because they have the NSD spirit but because they are not different from most of us.

They are overlooked. Nobody cares about them. When the Stanley Pringle trade was announced, the bulk of the discussion was how imbalance the trade was. Everyone forgot that the team was winning without Stanley.

And still, the players worked their ass-off last Wednesday.

Just like you. You are not giving up even though no one cares about what you are doing. Just like you, the Batang Piers are pushing to break the limitation that the PBA universe created for them. The PBA universe dictates that you need to have a super team to win a championship.

Northport doesn't have that and I am willing to bet that they will not have that in the next five years or even in the next 10 years.

What coach Pido Jarencio built though was players with the heart of a fighting Filipino. The PBA universe doubted them. And instead of shrinking and just meeting their expectations, the players are fighting to get more. They want to get your respect. They want to prove something more.

The mantra of coach Pido is, "puso, pride, palaban". The traits of a Filipino fighter.
