First, let us give a round of applause for the management of Ginebra in making another excellent move of signing a Jared Dillinger without giving up anything.
It is true that Jared Dillinger broke a gentleman's agreement, which Ginebra themselves employs, but Ginebra did not do anything wrong. They gave Jared an offer that was worth breaking a gentleman's agreement.
When coach Tim Cone was asked about their newest addition, he said to Spin.ph, "Duh! Of Course."
The question now is, other than his name, what are the things that Jared will bring to the table of Ginebra?
He can handle the ball and in today's game, having a lot of ball handlers is a good ingredience to win games. Just look at San Miguel who has Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot, Terrence Romeo and Marcio Lassiter.
When he was young, Jared was one of the best slashing forward in the league, he was called the Daredevil for a reason. Unfortunately due to his age and to a motorcycle accident, his drives to the basket are not as effective as before. Although, he still knows the art and should be able to burn advantageous match-ups.
Defensively, Jared is swtichable. He still has the feet to defend point guards. That is a good thing, especially when Ginebra faces the other elite teams who have fast and quick point guards. Jared can also defend in the post, although not against giants.
At the end of the day, the most important thing that he will bring to the table is his shooting. Last conference, he shot 44% from beyond the arc in the five games that he played. In the 2018 Commissioner's Cup where he played all the eleven elimination games, he averaged 2.0 makes per game with 34% accuracy.
Currently, Ginebra has five players averaging two or more attempts from beyond the arc and three of them are shooting 20% or worse. Yes, Ginebra badly need shooters and Jared is one.
