The Two Young PG that could replace Jayson Castro in Gilas Pilipinas

Now that Jayson has officially begged off from our national team, it is time to think about his replacement. In reality, I do not think there is a PBA guard out there who can be our starting PG this year and be awarded as the Asia's best point guard as early as next season.

What we have though are viable options like Alex Cabagnot, Mark Barroca and LA Tenorio.

Now, what I will give to you today are players that were never given a chance to play for the senior squad of Gilas who can be our starting point guard.

ROBERT BOLICK
This guy just accepted the invitation of our national team. This guy was just given the key to a franchise in the PBA after Northport traded Stanley Pringle. This guy just led the Batang Pier last Saturday to a 28 points win against Blackwater Elite. Robert accumulated 16 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 4/7 3FG.

The best thing that Bolick will bring to our national team that is unique is his size. The guy is at least 6'2 and that is fine for international competition. This conference, he is showing his worth as the starting point guard of Northport, averaging 17.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 43% FG per game.

REMY MARTIN
This guy is not playing in the PBA. He is not even playing in the Philippines. He is playing in US NCAA. He is the starting point guard of the Arizona State Sun Devils. His numbers in the most recent season should provide you a good overview of what type of point guard Remy is.

He averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 31.2% 3FG per game. Here is how coach Yeng Guiao described him in an interview with Rappler, "he can shoot the three, he can drive to the basket, he's a great passer, he's a hustler, he defends well. So who knows."

I am not really sure about his defense but all the other things that coach Yeng said were accurate. Martin is only 21 years old, the youngest possible option for Gilas.

Adding everything and we have a good option to try in the FIBA World Cup. I am pretty sure our veteran guards will learn two or three things from him.
