Is Calvin Abueva the guy that MPBL has been waiting for?

As Calvin Abueva continue to defy the orders in the PBA, we may need to start the stage of accepting that The Beast may never return to the #1 basketball league in the country.

Even though the parameters about his suspension was vague, Calvin knows what he needs to do to return to the league. He has accomplished some of it, but the fact that the suspension has not been lifted after almost two month dictates that he has failed to do other things.

Now, he is still under contract with Phoenix up to next season. Which means, the earliest possibility that he will play in another league is 2021.

Wait, another league? 

Is there another league in the country that Calvin can consider? Two years ago, there was none. Today, there is one. I am talking about Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

MPBL's popularity and sustainability continue to improve but if you look at it. The popularity of MPBL today is the league itself in its entirety. After two seasons, no teams have accumulated enough hype to be the obvious most popular team in the league.

The same is true in terms of players. TV Actors have joined the league and even showed that they are actually qualified and yet, they failed to accumulate hype. There are also veteran PBA players in the league and even superstars like JJ Helterbrand and still, none of them has legitimized himself as the face of the league. 

I believed, that the moment the MPBL succeeds in making at least two popular teams and at least a face of the league, they will reach another level of popularity.

That is the reason why they should be smiling now with the situation of Calvin. If you think about it, what type of player can be the face of MPBL?

I think that player should be charismatic, of course, energetic, hardworking and skilled. 

Yes, Calvin is the right face of the league that they have been lacking. Will it happen? Let us see.
