As everyone questions coach Tim Cone's decision to add six Ginebra players in the Gilas pool for the SEA games, I found a silver lining to his decision.
The 15-man pool for the SEA games are Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thompson, LA Tenorio, Stanley Pringle and Art Dela Cruz of Ginebra, with June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Christian Standhardinger, Chris Ross, Roger Pogoy, Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario, Vic Manuel and Matthew Wright.
Now, what was the silver lining?
Think about it. Coach Tim Cone is the coach of the most popular ball club in the country. We just saw Russel Escoto and Jerramy King got their trade wishes. Which means players can actually asked their way out of their current teams.
And add the fact that we are the heavy favorites in the SEA game and coach Tim Cone has a golden opportunity to connect to the young star players of the young franchises like Bobby Ray Parks, CJ Perez and Robert Bolick.
I never heard a player that did not like playing for coach Tim Cone. Coach Tim Cone could have made good connections to these players, prompting them in the future to make a trade request.
Coach Tim did not do it. Instead, he got other players from his sister team and from strong independent teams.
So, if you are questioning the decision for whatever reason. Just remember that coach Tim Cone did not take advantage of this golden opportunity.
