After a great start into the conference, the defending champion is now on the brink of being in a disadvantage if they reach the quarterfinals.
The good thing is, their losses to Blackwater and San Miguel were closed. Although, it is not good to see the most intact team to be unable to finish close games like those.
So, what are the biggest problems in Magnolia?
THREE-POINT SHOOTING
This one is pretty obvious. Just like Ginebra, Magnolia has been battling the on-going rise of the importance of three-point shooting. In this conference, they are attempting the third least number of long bombs, with the third worst efficiency.
Mathematically, that is of course a bad thing. But, the effect of it in their spacing is much more observable. If you watch them play, you will see their guards failing to reach the paint because the paint is pack with a lot of bodies.
One guy that could help them in this area is Aldrech Ramos. The guy is shooting an insane 75% from beyond the arc but he is only averaging 7.9 minutes per game. Coach Chito may need to give more minutes to him, just to open up more space for the team.
ROMEO TRAVIS
There is a good chance that they could have won their game against Blackwater if Travis was there. We saw him play against Ginebra but the guy delivered a -15 plus/minus. That means in the minutes that he was on the floor, Magnolia was outscored by 15 points. I think, he is still not 100% healthy. Which means Magnolia may need to consider a replacement because the risk that he will just be unable to play for the rest of the conference due to injury is high.
The 3 guard combination of chito victolero makes magnolia in a disadvantage especially in protecting the paint and getting those rebounds its time to use aldrech ramos who can be a floor spacer and can make those 3pt shot .he could be a threat as a shooter when he plays the 3 spot position.
