Blackwater and Meralco shocked the PBA universe when we found last Thursday that they are making a trade centered on Allein Maliksi. The PBA commissioner's office gave us a bigger surprise though when they rejected the first version.
So, the trade ended up:
Meralco acquired Allein Maliksi, Raymar Jose
Blackwater acquired Mike Tolomia, KG Canaleta, 2020 2nd, 2022 2nd
Is this trade fair? Although Jose is the #4 pick of the 2017 draft, he failed to live up to that very high standard and I believed he is equivalent to KG and one of those 2nd round picks. So, is Allein Maliksi equivalent to Mike Tolomia and a 2nd round pick?
I think, the answer is yes. Maliksi will provide Meralco an instant value while Tolomia, who is only 26 years old, has a lot of years left to prove his worth.
TEAM ANALYSIS
BLACKWATER ELITE
In terms of value, they loss big in this trade. But, if you think about their future, this trade is just fine. They do not have enough firepower to be a contender next season and even in 2021. So, having Maliksi in the line-up is kinda useless. So, trying a 26 years old Mike Tolomia is better for them. They also got two 2nd round picks that could be better than usual.
A lot of 2019 potential draft prospects have postponed joining the draft. Which means that the 2020 draft could be very deep that you may get a 1st round talent in the 2nd round.

MERALCO BOLTS
I will not be shocked if the management and the coaching staff made this deal because they are playing for their jobs. This is an excellent deal for them. They have a very loaded guard rotation that losing Mike Tolomia will not have any impact at all. They upgraded from a KG Canaleta to an Allein Maliksi.
A proven wingman who will provide scoring punch if they needed it. And, they added an undersize bigman that they need more.
