The rise of three-pointers in the PBA

If you are not living under a rock, I am pretty sure you have heard about the on-going movement in the basketball landscape.

It is about a simple mathematical truth that three points is higher than two. Actually, the much deeper sense of that is, three points is 50% higher than two.

So, if you are knocking down 33.3% of your three-point attempts, that is the same with you knocking down 50% of your two-point attempts.

That philosophy is also taking the PBA by storm and the young players are leading the way.

Out of the ten players who are attempting the most long bombs, three of them are rookies. And yes, they are the top 3 pick of the 2018 draft; Bobby Ray Parks, CJ Perez and Robert Bollick.

Ray Parks is the most fearless, attempting 10.3 per game, #1 in the league! And it is not as if he is not connecting. The guy is 52% from beyond the arc! Yes, he averaged more than 5 made-threes per game! He is making more three-pointers than the number of attempts of Terrence Romeo, Von Pessumal, RR Pogoy and etc.

CJ Perez, who entered the PBA with minimal hype around his three-point shooting, is attempting the fourth-most per game.

As a basketball-country, this is a great development. That is because we still do not have enough size to counter the height plus heft plus skills of other nations.

Now that our young stars are emphasizing three-point shots, we could be developing the best counter possible.
