When Ginebra managed to eliminate Northport Batang Pier, the rumblings about them getting Christian Standhardinger got stronger.
On the other hand, Magnolia trading away Aldrech Ramos to get a forward in Jackson Corpuz raised speculations that they will soon get a center and that guy is Christian Standhardinger.
Standhardinger is a guy that every team should aspire to get. I have pounded this opinion from the moment Standhardinger entered the PBA, he is the challenger to the reign of a June Mar Fajardo.
So, why am I saying that Ginebra or Magnolia should not trade for him? To be exact, they should not trade for him if they will not give up an equal value.
If Ginebra is planning to do another Stanley Pringle package to get Standhardinger, they should realize that even if they manage to get many championships in the next decade, that will have an asterisk in the eyes of many fans.
Why?
Because both Stanley Pringle and Christian Standhardinger were provided to them in one-sided type of trades.
That will also be the effect if Magnolia traded for him and gave up a package that doesn't equate to a Standhardinger.
Other than that, they also should realize that getting a high-usage, non-shooting bigman, when they already have non-shooting bigs in their core, Aguilar for Ginebra and Sangalang for Magnolia, may actually not that ideal.
Especially if you consider the fact that both squads do not actually have a lot of shooters in their supporting cast. It is hard to win championships if you do not have workable spacing in your offense.
Lastly, Standhardinger may not be a positive presence in the locker room of loaded squads like Ginebra and Magnolia. Not because he has attitude issues or something but if you have followed his statements during his stint in Northport, he prefers being the guy of a team. Do not expect a player who is in a type of team that he doesn't like to be that responsive in building up chemistry with his teammates.
So, if you are a Ginebra or Magnolia fan who cannot wait to root for him, do not expect too much. It may not turnout to be as successful as what you imagined.
