Should Justin Brownlee be the next Gilas naturalized player?

The Gilas preparation for the 2023 FIBA World Cup is getting hotter by the week. The biggest question mark is still, who will be the next coach?

There are a lot of possibilities. From coach Mark Dickel of TNT and plethora of foreign coaches who have proven themselves in the past.

Other than that, Gilas has also made a big decision of not using Andray Blatche as naturalized player, anymore.

One of the guy that the has been vocal about his availability for the position is Chris McCullough. Yes, the same import who helped San Miguel overcome TNT in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Now, the million of fans and some popular Philippine basketball personalities are also pushing for Justin Brownlee.

Justin has gained a lot of fans, not only from Ginebra, but also from big name personalities in Philippine basketball because of his success and performance.

So, should he be the next Gilas naturalized player?

I think, the answer is a no. The biggest reason is his age. He is already 31 years old. He is only two years old younger than Andray Blatche.

I can easily make a case that the impact of Blatche to our Gilas national team will still be much better than what Justin Brownlee will bring.

And at 31, he only have around two to three years more of peak level in basketball. In short, there is a good chance that he will not be elite when 2023 arrived.

Other than that, I am not really sure it will work that easily with the rivalry of MVP and the San Miguel Corporation. Brownlee has been the most popular import of the conglomerate in this century. It will not be that easy for them to let the MVP group, utilize him.
