PBA Controversy: The Ginebra fans are part of the reason of Slaughter's sabbatical?

When the news about Greg Slaughter going for a sabbatical broke out, the early reason that we rumbled about was for him to avoid being traded. That he was already on his way to Northport with Jerrick BAlanza for Ginebra to get Christian Standhardinger. And by taking leave, his value suddenly plunged, making it an unfair exchange.

Yesterday, coach Tim Cone spoke about it and this one may have hit another possible reason.
I think he really needs to take a mental break. He wasn’t treated well on the internet as we all know. I think that just kinda weigh on him and, more importantly, weigh on his family.
I believe, Greg has been the most criticize Ginebra player for this century. The root of that is the expectation of million Ginebra fans for the tallest and biggest player in the PBA.

They believed that he should be more dominant than he was doing. Of course, it did not help that June Mar Fajardo has been dominating the league for the past few years.

And the pressure, the expectation and the criticism got into him. You may try to acquit yourself by saying that he should have not entered the PBA if he cannot handle it. That he should be professional about it. That it is part of being a professional player.

But, Greg is only a human too. As human beings, we have different levels of thresholds for pressure, expectation and criticism. If criticism and etc. already breakthrough those thresholds, the human being will need to make choices in how to handle it.

Unfortunately, some people ended up killing themselves. Fortunately for Greg Slaughter, he may have chosen the right way to handle it.

Yes. This could be a mental-health issue. And those who have criticized him and those who did not do anything about it, have a part on why Greg is now taking a sabbatical.

Believe it or not Ginebra fan, you may have just caused your team to lose Greg for the Philippine Cup. And you may have just caused them a championship.

  1. Probably, it's true.......criticisms can be made in many other ways.....although I believe most of the ones that hurt him so much are the ones made via the social media (the self-made basketball analysts, Ginebra haters, and a few Ginebra fans themselves) and maybe, the slightly delayed team management's show of support to him......
