PBA Controversy: Vic Manuel and Jio Jalalon are suspended!

It seems like the number of issues that the PBA is facing is getting higher as the weeks go by because recently, the office of the PBA commissioner summoned Vic Manuel and Jio Jalalon.

They were summoned because they have played in another league, also known as Ligang Labas. According to the reports, the mother teams of Vic and Jio have suspended them. Although, the media are not yet aware of how many games.

According to commissioner Marcial, PBA players are actually allowed to play in another league as long as they are permitted by their mother teams and they informed the PBA.

The main reason for being strict about this is the risk that the player will suffer an injury while playing in Ligang Labas. That worst-case scenario happened to Chris Exciminiano who was supposed to sign a new contract with Rain or Shine Elasto Painters but he suffered a gruesome injury while playing in Ligang Labas. Now, that contract was off the table.

Vic Manuel committed this violation already in 2016 when he played in Bulacan and he was suspended for one game. Now that he did it again, there is a good chance that Alaska will suspend him for more games.

The case of Jio will be more interesting. I have not heard about any player in the camp of Magnolia who has committed this recently. Knowing the depth of their guard rotation, I will not be shocked if Magnolia gives him a much longer suspension than that of Manuel.

Overall though, it will be much better if there is a uniform schedule of suspension for this type of suspension. Just to be fair for those who violated. By being suspended, the violators will not get their salary for that game. So, even if two players from different teams played in the same Ligang Labas, there is a good chance that the number of games that they will not play will be different.
