The on-going break will have a big impact on the competition for the title of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup. Players with injuries will not miss that much number of games. Calvin Abueva may be able to play more games. Greg Slaughter may actually return and etc.
So, let us have our 2.0 ranking even though only a single game was finished!
#12 Blackwater Elite (#12 in 1.0 Ranking)
Nothing change about them. Although knowing that coach Nash Racela is at the helm and that he has a lot of his former players in the team, they could be having a much easier time adjusting to this break.
#11 NLEX Road Warriors (#10 in 1.0 Ranking)
I trust coach Yeng Guiao to make this work but I do not think he has the roster to reach the Finals. I even expect him to just use this season to develop his young players.
#10 Columbian Dyip (#9 in 1.0 Ranking)
Knowing that practices are canceled, I do not think the Dyip will get any benefit from this long break. Fortunately for them, they still have the most promising duo in the league.
#9 Phoenix Fuel Masters (#11 in 1.0 Ranking)
I think the break will be positive for Phoenix because it may give more games for Calvin Abueva. Do not forget that Phoenix was the #1 team in the elimination round of the 2019 version of the Philippine Cup. They can do it again. Although their depth in their frontline is a big concern.
#8 Alaska Aces (#7 in 1.0 Ranking)
I actually think that Alaska will be impacted, negatively by the break because of the lack of practice time and them having a lot of young players in their core rotation.
#7 Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (#6 in 1.0 Ranking)
Knowing that the rotation of this team has been playing together for a while now, I do not think the break will have that much impact. Although, I am also not sure if they have what it takes to win the championship.
#6 Meralco Bolts (#8 in 1.0 Ranking)
The break gave more time for Raymond Almazan to return. Almazan is their most important player so the Bolts could be the biggest winner of this break. I expect the wing rotation of Meralco to further improved because Bong Quinto is just a sophomore and Aaron Black is coming.
#5 San Miguel Beermen (#5 in 1.0 Ranking)
Even though they dominated Magnolia, I still cannot pull the trigger to push them into the top 4. There is a good chance that their performance in their first game was heavily buoyed by the feeling to prove something. I may need one more game to judge it properly.
#4 Northport Batang Pier (#4 in 1.0 Ranking)
Remember Robert Bolick? There is a good chance now that he could catch up with the team if they reach the playoffs. That is good news for the team who manage to reach the semifinals without him at the last conference.
#3 Magnolia Hotshots (#1 in 1.0 Ranking)
Thanks to their game against the Beermen, I remembered their biggest weakness. Their spacing is still pretty bad because they do not have competent shooters. They will once again rely heavily on their defense which is not that bad of a decision to make.
#2 Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel (#3 in 1.0 Ranking)
According to one report, Greg Slaughter is only planning to be out for at least four months. So, there is a chance that he can return to Ginebra during this conference. Other than that, Ginebra has high chemistry. So, they will not be impacted that much by this break.
#1 TNT Ka Tropa (#2 in 1.0 Ranking)
According to Commissioner Willie Marcial, he will give one to two weeks of practice time before restarting the season. That means additional time for TNT to incorporate JP Erram in their system. Knowing that they have a starting five that could be better than that of Ginebra and San Miguel, they deserve to be at the top of this ranking.
Nlex road warriors dont deserve the 11th placing in your assessment. They could go as high as 6 to 4. Never understimate this team. Remember nlex is the number1 last season and if only jp erram was not given suspension that time, a possibility of semis appearance. Even with jp erram out now i dont think elevating nlex to 11th in your assessment lacks basis. I can bet nlex will not be at 11th.
