With a very long break, we just have enough time to analyze each team. In our first series, we will rank the core players, usually the top 12, of each squad according to their trade value. Let us define trade value as the potential return if a player will be traded, alone.
We will start with the Blackwater Elite. If the players are not ranked, it indicates that I do not see the other teams paying value to get them.
#5 Paul Desiderio, Mike Tolomia, Marion Magat, Frank Golla
I doubt if these five can even get a second-round pick at this point. Desiderio and Tolomia are the biggest names but Paul has been very bad in his rookie season. Tolomia has failed to get consistent minutes in his first few years. Magat and Golla are bench bigs with good size that could allure at least one team to give up a second-round pick.
#4 Richard Escoto, Ed Daquioag, Roi Sumang
For these three, I am more confident that they will get a second-round pick and maybe more. Escoto is their 2nd round pick in the recent draft and with his size and ability to hit threes, he has value. Daquioag and Sumang have proven in the past that they can contribute.
#3 Carl Bryan Cruz
CBC was the guy that they exchange Abu Tratter for. I think Cruz can still give them a 1st round or a young guy plus a 2nd round pick, but that value could easily decrease in the upcoming conference if they are not going to maximize him.
#2 Mac Belo, Don Trollano
Even though Belo has failed to live up to the hype of being the franchise player, the guy has been a consistent forward for Blackwater. Belo is still 27 years old and a good defender with the shooting. On the other hand, Trollano has proven himself to be one of the best role players in the PBA. Don averaged 9.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 32% 3FG per game last season. A lot of coaches are a fan of Trollano. So, I think there are teams out there who are willing to give more for Don, than for Belo.
#1 Maurice Shaw
There is no doubt that Shaw is currently the best trade chip of Blackwater. He is the #2 pick of the 2019 PBA draft and he is not restricted to be shipped, unlike the #1 pick, Roosevelt Adams. Being a 6'8 center with legit strength and athleticism, Shaw will get a minimum of a 1st round pick plus a player with value for Blackwater. His biggest negative is his age but if he can dominate, that can also be negated.
