PBA Problem: The Biggest Loser of the COVID-19 break, that may not end until May

According to Commissioner Willie Marcial of the PBA, the league's resumption may not happen until May. 

The league is currently on hold up to April 14 because of the ongoing community quarantine in Metro Manila. The quarantine does not allow mass gathering of even several people, so games without fans are not even an option.

Now, even if the quarantine will be lifted on April 14, Mr. Marcial said that he will not push through for a return right away because he also disallowed practicing already. He wants to give the teams at least two weeks of getting back into shape.

So, in his estimate, the earliest return of the league will be the early part of May. Yes, we will not be having live PBA games for almost two months!

Now, who are the biggest losers of this long break?

Of course, the obvious ones are the fans who will not be able to watch the league for almost two months.

How about PBA players?

Calvin Abueva is the most obvious. Calvin has been suspended from June 4 up to this point. That is around 10 months already of not playing basketball and not having his salary. 

Now, because of this break, his suspension will have an additional two months wherein he is restricted in complying with the things that Mr. Marcial wants him to do for the suspension to be lifted.

While his fellow PBA players will enjoy additional months of salary, Calvin will suffer from additional months of not having a salary wherein he cannot do anything about it. 

I hope the office of PBA will realize that and at least, grant him his salary for the months affected by the break due to COVID-19.
