PBA Free-Agency: All expiring contracts are extended! Who benefited the most?

The PBA continues to face all issues that COVID-19 created for the league. One issue is the contracts that already or will expire soon. So, how did the league answer this problem?

They decided to outrightly extend all the expiring contracts up to the end of the year or the conclusion of the season, whichever comes first.

Between August and November, 49 players have expiring contracts. Some of the biggest names are Kevin Alas and Kiefer Ravena of NLEX, Vic Manuel and Jeron Teng of Alaska and Arwind Santos, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Mo Tautuaa and Alex Cabagnot of San Miguel.

So, instead of resolving now the contract situation of those players, it is now postponed. So, who or which team benefited the most with this decision?

#2 Christian Standhardinger
In terms of legacy, remaining with Northport for the longest time possible could be the best for Standhardinger. The extension of his contract may have lock-in Christian to Northport for at least one tournament. That one tournament could be enough for him to prove that he is capable of carrying a non-elite team deep into the playoffs.

#1 Alaska
They are rumored to be selling their franchise. They denied it. So, if the rumor is true, they cannot immediately sell it because of possible push back because of their denial. So, in a way, they may have saved some money by not facing Vic Manuel and Jeron Teng in the contract table.

Now, if the rumor is not true, they still benefited because they avoid facing Manuel and Teng who could have pushed for their rumored trade demand in the contract discussion. In short, this decision extended their hold to their two most popular players.
