The teams in the Philippine Basketball Association are finally back to workouts. The next step is to allow practices and then finally, an NBA bubble-type will be done to conduct a conference.
So, here is the series of articles that will provide the biggest questions for each team as a primer for the possible return of the league.
Today, our discussion will focus on the Meralco Bolts. In the last conference, they again reached the finals against Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel. Unfortunately, a Raymond Almazan injury drove them to a 4-1 defeat.
If you look at their roster, you will see a plethora of good players. They have veterans in Cliff Hodge, Nico Salva, John Pinto, Allein Maliksi and Noy Baclao. They also have the younger ones like Aaron Black, Raymar Jose, Trevis Jackson and Baser Amer.
The point is, Meralco is full of players that they can combine and create a trade package to get an upgrade in a position that they want.
So, is Meralco one trade away from being a legit contender in the Philippine Cup?
The fact that Meralco was quickly dispatched by Ginebra once Almazan went down, means they badly need one more starting caliber bigman.
It is not that easy to find but there are good targets out there. The #1 guy that should be trying to reach is Greg Slaughter.
He announced that he signed with an international agent but up to this point, he has not signed with any team.
Maybe the past of Slaughter and coach Norman could be enough for him to return to the PBA.
