PBA Future: A new International League like the NBA is born! Should the PBA join?

Remember the Terrific 12 tournament that Blackwater, San Miguel and TNT joined in the past that happened in the Middle East?

That league is called East Asia Super League (EASL) and they just earned the recognition from the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) to run tournaments that will showcase the top basketball clubs in different East Asian countries.

Leading the charge is Matt Beyer, who has spent the bulk of his career working as the only licensed foreign player agent in China.  Beyer then realized the lack of an international tournament covering East Asian professional clubs.

That resulted in the birth of the Super 8 tournament in Macau, which took teams from four major Asian markets—China, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines—and pitted them in a tournament against each other. That began in 2017 and morphed into The Terrific 12 for the past two years.

So, how will the league work?

In 2021 and 2022, the league will be inviting eight teams and according to the reports, all of those eight could be coming from China, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

The most interesting part is that they will be having a home-and-away format, just like in the NBA. Yes, our whole country will have the feel of supporting a basketball club playing against an International team! That will be amazing right?

Now, the league plans to have 16 teams by 2023 and if you are asking how will the schedule works. EASL said that they will work around the schedule of the local leagues.

Now, why am I asking if the PBA should join?

Because they may decide not to. This is a private endeavor. So, the PBA is not obliged to join.

How about you, do you think the PBA should join?
