The coaching staff and the management of TNT Ka Tropa received the news of the retirement of Kelly Williams through social media, just like us.
Actually, Kelly Williams was actually present from the start in their bubble-training to INSPIRE Sports in Laguna. But he suddenly went home without proper coordination with the team.
Nevertheless, coach Bong Ravena was still thankful for the service of Kelly Williams and they respect his decision.
But the question remains, why did Kelly retire so suddenly?
Fortunately, he was interviewed in the Ultimate Fan Hub podcast and revealed the following,
"There's going to be a lot of details that I won't be getting into. I Will definitely be in the next book but I could say that I feel that I could play for four or five years strong, but sometimes, some things are out of your control. There's a lot of intricacies within the business that you just got to deal with... I'll talk about it in my next book, but it was more of business plus life realization that this decision was made for me."
Things out of his control? Intricacies in the business? What are those things that made a former MVP who feels that he can still play for at least four years physically, retire?
Wait. This happened before. Do you remember?
Greg Slaughter did not retire but he did go into a sabbatical because of reason/s that he cannot share to the public. Although, many sources revealed that he was supposed to be traded and decided to leave for a while to avoid being sent to another team.
During that interview, Kelly denied that health or the pandemic was the reason for his retirement.
Now, knowing that TNT is serious about their contention and that Kelly obviously exhibited displeasure with the way he handled this situation, I think there is a good chance that our current hypothesis was true.
Although, he also revealed in the interview about his desire to be with his kids that live in the United States and that he has been thinking about retirement for a while now.
If it is not about being traded, it could be about his desire to be with his family and watch his kids grow.
