Coach Bonnie Tan, the manager of the Northport Batang Pier and the head coach of the defending NCAA Basketball Champion, Letran Knights, made an interesting remark on the Chasedown of One PH.
Hindi naman siguro masamang mag-ambisyon na baka lang maging pandemic champion dahil short conference lang.
Wait. Is Bonnie Tan the manager now of San Miguel? Or Ginebra? Or Magnolia? Nope. He is still with Northport Batang Pier. The team that was supposed to be the farm team of the three franchises of the San Miguel Corporation.
Let us first answer the most important question, is his hope of winning the championship, possible?
Yes. They will have the best player in the upcoming quarantine cup because June Mar Fajardo will not be able to play.
Of course, I am talking about Christian Standhardinger. Yes, the same guy that was rumored that he will not last a year in the Batang Pier uniform. That, Northport is not really his destination.
The fact is, even with trading two superstar guards in the past few years in Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle, Northport's line-up remained to be formidable. This year, they have a very skilled starting five in Standhardinger-Anthony-Ferrer-Taha-Bolick.
I think, it helped a lot that coach Bonnie Tan is currently the head coach of Letran, which is currently the main focus of the support of Al Francis Chua, the Sports Director of San Miguel Corporation.
Actually, coach Bonnie and Mr. Chua are friends. So, it may not be a coincidence that Northport has been looking fine in the past several years.
This year could be the biggest test of their friendship. What if Northport starts strong? Will Mr. Chua just let them be?
