PBA Analysis: Ginebra did not trade for Slaughter's replacement because

In 2016 and 2019, quarterfinals. In 2018, they ended up in the semis. And their best finish was as a finalist in 2017.

Those were the results of Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel in the four Philippine Cup under coach Tim Cone. You know one of the biggest reasons why?

They ended up as the last team in 2019 in terms of three-pointers made. Yes. Three-point shooting. Or to be more accurate, spacing.

For the entirety of coach Tim Cone's tenure in Ginebra, LA Tenorio and Justin Brownlee were the main sources of spacing for the team. That is the reason why they won championships with Justin. Without Justin, the life of Scottie, Mariano, Greg and Japeth was all harder.

So, it was shocking that they ended up with 12/29 from beyond the arc in their very first game. And that one guy ended up with 3/3 mark from the rainbow country.

And that guy was Prince Caperal. The center that took the minutes of Greg Slaughter. Caperal ended the game with a +8 plus/minus. It means Ginebra outscored NLEX by 8 points when he was on the court.

Although it is only one game, it is getting obvious why Ginebra was more than willing to enter this 2020 season without looking for someone to replace Greg in the trade market.

They trust Prince to do the job. Actually, Prince may end up being a better fit because, in the highest level of basketball in the Philippines, height is not enough to dominate.
