Yesterday, the PBA announced that a referee just tested positive for COVID-19. The test was taken last Monday, as part of their mandatory swab testing.
Even with the positive result, all games will still push through as scheduled. Although, stricter measures will now be applied!
Also, the team supplies and food deliveries that usually arrive during Friday is temporarily suspended until further notice.
Also, media availability will not be allowed in the meantime. This is to avoid crowding in a small room.
Nevertheless, that referee only falls under probable case according to the PBA. He will now undergo another swab test, and the league is hoping that it is only a product of "false positive".
A false-positive result happens when a person without COVID-19 was tested positive. It is an inherent limitation of any test for Coronavirus.
At this point, I agree with the league that they should just continue as usual and just tighten up their system because it could be false-positive.
Even if he really has the COVID-19, the fact that they have been testing all the other people inside the bubble should give confidence to the management that no spread is happening.
Although, another positive result soon also indicates that they may need to pause it at least because of the risk that the virus may have spread.
