The first game of the seminals series between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Meralco Bolts was one-sided.
Ginebra dominated Meralco on both ends of the court. They connected on 10 three-pointers. They won the rebounding battle by 17. They got five more assists. They scored 16 more points in the paint and many more.
So, this series is over, right?
There is a good chance that it is already over if Raymond Almazan continues to be unhealthy. Without him, the frontline of Ginebra is too tall and too skilled for the remaining bigs of Meralco to control.
Also, Meralco's defense is broken without Raymond. With a big hole in the middle, it is much easier for LA Tenorio, Stanley Pringle and Scottie Thompson to do their thing.
But, even if Almazan goes to 100% health, there is still a good chance that Meralco may not have enough talent to overcome Ginebra.
Unless they want to throw something new. A player that Ginebra did not face in the finals in the Governors' Cup.
Yes. I am talking about Aaron Black. The guy who entered the 4th quarter with a double-digit deficit and made two jumpers face to face with a defender.
The confidence of Black and the potential that his shooting is real could be a game-changer for a team that is defiant against maximizing three-point shooting. Black also helps a lot in making plays for his teammates and he looks fine in defending Pringle.
