Which type of coach would you rather have? A blunt one that will tell the media the way he sees things even if the players will be hurt? Or someone who will think first about the feelings of his players and will be safe in sharing things with the media?
Coach Leo Austria is clearly the first option. After failing to encash a twice-to-beat edge against the Meralco Bolts, there is a growing cry that it is time to let him go.
The main reason why coach Leo Austria wanted a revamp is that the core of his team is already very old. Santos is already 39 years old, Cabagnot will turn 38, Ross is already 35 and Lassiter is 33.
I do agree with him that it is time to change the core of the team. Their age is also the reason why I believed San Miguel did not underperform in this tournament.
The way the bubble was run, it was really meant to kill old teams. And San Miguel is not only an old team, they were riddled with injuries before and during the bubble.
But, what about his decision of telling the public indirectly that he wants to trade his old guards for new ones?
Maybe, Santos, Cabagnot, Ross and Lassiter are old enough that they can handle the realities of being a basketball player.
But what if they are not? What if those statements by coach Leo just lit the sequel of Petronevela? If that happens, that could be the final straw in deciding to finally fire coach Leo.
