The size and talent of the upcoming draft continue to push up. After Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Troy Rike and Santi Santillan joined, another 3x3 stalwart expressed to the media that he will follow them to the 2020 PBA draft.
I am talking about Franky Johnson.
Johnson is a very good scorer who played one season in the NCAA in the US. His way of scoring the basket is pretty similar to a Stanley Pringle as he relies on his pull-up shooting and quick first step.
One that intrigues me the most about him is his physique. If he is a legit 6'2, he could be capable of defending small forwards and small bigs. That will give him a jolt of versatility that could be crucial for his ceiling.
The other guy who announced his intention of joining the PBA draft is the starting center of the NCAA 2019 champion, Larry Muyang.
Muyang averaged 12.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist last year. The comparison to Belga started because of their physique and with slow they are, physically.
Now, Belga succeeded in the PBA, not because of his big body, but more about the skills that he managed to develop.
That will be the key also for Muyang. Muyang is already attempting three-point shots but he is not yet that consistent with it.
I also did not see enough evidence that he has the feel for the game to be a very good passing bigman.
Overall, with his size and willingness to shoot threes right away, Muyang ceiling could be high.
