Meralco reached the finals thrice in the Governors' Cup. Thrice, they failed. Against what team? Yes. Ginebra.
So, it is hard to blame coach Norman when he told the media that they need to improve their talent level. He pointed to the upcoming draft but they are at the #9 pick. Even if the upcoming draft is deep, I do not think they will get a franchise-changing talent that can help them right away.
Thus, it was really note-worthy that he praised Japeth Aguilar's performance against them and pointed out how big Noy Baclao could have been if he was allowed to play.
In short, they are looking for a reliable center. To be more specific, someone that can withstand a Japeth Aguilar.
The reality is, there are only a few options. Most of them are not realistic trade targets. I am talking about a Christian Standhardinger, for example. He is not going anywhere other than an SMC team.
One guy that they should really consider is Greg Slaughter. The former partner of Japeth Aguilar.
His connection to coach Norman Black and the growing number of signs that Greg is not returning to Ginebra could make this a perfect fit.
