Kai Sotto has decided. He will join our national team in the upcoming FIBA Qualifiers this February. Here was his statement,
"I'm heading home soon. Sobrang excited ako na binigyan ng opportunity para makapaglaro sa Gilas ngayong February window. Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumusuporta at naniniwala sa aking pangarap na makapaglaro para sa bayan at sa tamang panahon, sa NBA."
With his decision, a big conflict will arise because the NBA G-League bubble tournament where his team, G League Ignite will play, will also happen this February.
So, by choosing to play for the national team, Kai may just bypass an opportunity to showcase his wares in front of NBA scouts. And that could mean that his dream of being drafted in the NBA will not happen this year.
I really wonder if this is the right decision.
If he will not play in that NBA G-League bubble tournament, he could taking the risk of being totally detached from the G-League ignite.
And if that happens, his dream of playing in the NBA could be very far from reality.
And the fact is, he is taking this too much risk, for a tournament that will not really move anything for our national team.
We are already in for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
So, I really believed that Kai joining the G-League tournament is much better for his future than playing for the upcoming qualifiers.
