The Vic Manuel saga just started and it already catapulted a lot of additional chapters in the story. Coach Jeffrey Cariaso is trying his best to mitigate the situation. It seems like he is really motivated to keep Manuel.
Unfortunately for coach Jeff, the governor of the team gave statements already that is leaning towards trading their star bigman.
Although the trade rumor is a big deal, I actually think that there is a more pressing matter that Alaska fans should not be misled from.
Why was Alaska so frugal with their contract talks to Manuel? He is arguably their most popular player and one of their top 3 most productive on the court.
Why did it take them several months after the bubble before they engaged him to an extension and why was it a meager two-year contract when the running rate for a guy at his status is three years?
I am eluding to the rumor that they are having a hard time maintaining the franchise that they may sell the franchise soon.
The situation of Manuel is evidence of that.
I have my fear that this will only be the beginning of a possible trade spree by Alaska. Either because they want to keep their PBA franchise alive by cutting their costs. Or, the beginning of a sell-off that will end to an exit by the popular independent franchise.
