Phoenix Super LPG team manager Paolo Bugia opened up to Spin.ph about their decision to trade Calvin Abueva.
In that explanation, he focuses heavily on the reality of keeping Calvin Abueva from doing another big mistake that could jeopardize his playing license. Mr. Bugia said that it was an entire team effort, even Abueva's teammates contributed and was a 24/7 job.
For me, the most crucial part of the explanation was this,
"Amid all the lights and everything that was going on in the bubble, behind the scenes, and obscure to the fans, there was a lot of time and effort talaga, continuous to keep Calvin on track, time and effort from coaches, management, and even his teammates and the players."
For me, this is indicating that Calvin is not yet 100% a changed man. That Magnolia may have gotten just a bit better version of Calvin before his long suspension.
Now, Magnolia may need to do what Phoenix did to keep Calvin away from any risks of doing something unnecessary.
The big difference now is, almost the entire team will be playing with him for the first time. The coach, coach Chito, is not coach Topex who has a great connection to Calvin.
Take note that the playing license Calvin is still under probation. One mistake and they can take it away again and even if Calvin is already under the most powerful conglomerate in the league, he may still end up being suspended.
