After the CJ Perez to San Miguel Beermen trade, Magnolia and Ginebra came to the spotlight. It is of course about the rumored destination of Christian Standhardinger.
Last year, the stronger buzz was that Ginebra will be the team that will get Christian. Then this year, the rumor shifted to Magnolia.
And just this week, Snow Badua just provided hints that it is shifting back to Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel. Imagine Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle playing in a pick-and-roll.
And if we string together the news and the rumors, there is a strong case that the reason why Magnolia may not get Standhardinger is their unwillingness to let go of Ian Sangalang.
This could be a historical blunder for them. Ian Sangalang is easily one of the five best giants in the league.
He is easily one of the best finishers. He cuts and positions himself very well. But if you look closely at his game and compare it to Standhardinger, there is a big difference.
Standhardinger is a big upgrade from Sangalang. Just Christian's good passing accuracy and vision could help maximize the lethal scorers of Magnolia who are not respectable from beyond the arc.
For a team that is not playing with very good spacing, passing is a crucial part of the offense. And Christian will bring that passing.
And the worst thing about it could be the possibility that Christian will now go to Ginebra and create another super powerhouse like San Miguel Beermen.
