Thirdy Ravena will continue his budding International basketball career after he signed a fresh two-years contract with San-En NeoPhoenix.
Now, this decision of Thirdy has again put the "draft dodger" rule of the PBA into the limelight. The rule states that a prospect who is already eligible to enter the draft after being done with college, cannot pass the draft for two years.
With that rule, Thirdy clearly should not be eligible anymore.
Actually, Thirdy Ravena already sent an explanation to the office of the PBA commissioner about his decision of having a new contract.
But, the commissioner said that it was not a letter that will help Thirdy avoid a ban from the PBA. It was more of a personal explanation to the commissioner.
It seems like the board will be the one again to decide about the fate of Thirdy.
The reality is, the PBA is in a tough situation in this one. Banning Thirdy and enforcing a rule that was actually created for the sake of parity, will surely leave a bad taste in the mouth of the top amateur basketball players in the country.
If they will not ban him, it will weaken the rule and it will be much better to just abolish it totally.
Now, should the PBA ban Thirdy?
Of course not. Actually, the PBA should encourage Filipino players to enter International basketball.
