According to coach Al Francis Chua, he suggested to commissioner Willie Marcial that they conduct the tournaments as fast as possible. And that the break between conferences should be as short as possible.
According to coach Al, the faster the tournament will be the lesser the risk of COVID-19. That way, players can go home much earlier and with much longer rest.
He failed to take to account though that a very short tournament can be derailed with a lot of controversies if one infection enters in.
Like, there is a risk that Pringle, Standhardinger and Thompson will suddenly be a contact of a COVID-19 positive during the playoffs. Ginebra will then end up failing in the playoffs.
In short, there could be a lot of what-ifs.
Nevertheless, I think a shorter season will benefit Ginebra the most. The two biggest impediments to the total domination of Ginebra are San Miguel and TNT.
A short tournament means Fajardo may miss a lot of games and even the entire conference. Fajardo will need several games to get back his rhythm. A faster pace will not help him.
On the other hand, TNT is a sleeping giant in a way. What if Parks and TNT find a good middle? A shorter tournament will lessen the potential that a TNT-Parks reunion will derail their domination.
Also, a shorter Philippine Cup means a shorter time for teams to prepare for the import tournament where Justin Brownlee will be waiting with Ginebra, to continue to success.
