Magnolia is the only title contender in the PBA that has two clear issues. All the other title contenders have one.
So, what are the issues of Magnolia? Three-point shooting and bigs.
Their problem with their frontline was legitimized after Marc Pingris decided to retire. With his retirement, Magnolia is down to a frontline rotation of Ian Sangalang-Calvin Abueva-Rafi Reavis-Kyle Pascual-Aris Dionisio.
Good enough for the PBA but if the target of Magnolia is a championship, they need more. Like, they badly need Reavis to remain to be a 10-20 minutes quality bigman.
That is not really a task that they should ask one of the oldest PBA players in the league.
That is the reason why it is logical for Magnolia to target a bigman. But how about adding a solution to the other problem by targeting a stretch big?
Magnolia could be doing that as the new rumor states that they are now offering Kyle Pascual and 2nd round picks for Russel Escoto.
Escoto is not the strongest big in the league. He is also not gifted with good fundamental footwork for his post moves.
What he will bring though is traditional size with the ability to hit three-point shots.
