Let us assess the 15 man roster for this FIBA Asian Qualifier.
#15 Jaydee Tungcab
He can be a pretty good PBA player because of his athleticism and grit as a role player. If he can show off more skills, he may have a chance to be part of future Gilas teams.
#14 RJ Abarrientos
RJ is one of the most anticipated high school prospects from UAAP but then, the pandemic happened. My issue with RJ is that he may not even be a 5'11 and if he is athletic enough to play in the International game at his young age. He is the nephew of the legendary Johnny Abarrientos. Can he be as good? We will see.
#13 Mike Nieto
For Nieto, it is all about his three-point shooting. If he can be very good with his shooting, he will have a chance to play on multiple Gilas teas.
#12 SJ Belangel
The big difference between SJ and RJ is that SJ is a pretty awesome off-the-ball three-point shooter already. He can further improve that and maybe add more to his playmaking abilities.
#11 Will Navarro
Can he become the lite version of Gabe Norwood? He has shown the willingness to be an all-out role player like Gabe.
#10 Angelo Kouame
Our naturalized player is only at #10? Yes. Because I do not think that a defensive monster is what our national team needs. I believe, we better have an offensive juggernaut. I mean, I think it is much better for our national team to have Justin Brownlee than Angelo.
#9 Geo Chiu
Chiu is one of the projects of Gilas that is part of this upcoming FIBA Qualifiers. He is 6'9 and right now, the best thing that I saw is that he is more nimble than the Greg Slaughters of the PBA.
#8 Javi Gomez De Liano
Javi is a proven hard worker. I think guys like him can provide value just by being part of the bench. Other than that, Javi is already a crafty forward and if he can further improve his three-point shooting, it will be good for our national team.
#7 Carl Tamayo
The other guy that Gilas is trying to convert into a small forward. Carl is already willing to shoot three-pointers. If he can be a lethal shooter, Carl may end up as a vital piece of our national team in the future.
#6 Jordan Heading
Heading may end up as our stabilizing point guard up to 2023. Jordan is not the craftiest or the most athletic, but he can run an offense pretty well.
#5 Isaac Go
I strongly believe that Go has the potential to be a constant fixture for our national team. Although, knowing that he was drafted with Terrafirma, it could be interesting once he returns to the PBA.
#4 Lebron Lopez
He is the athletic freak project of our national team. Lopez is only 17 years old and he could already be around 6'6 with jaw-dropping athleticism and strength.
#3 Dwight Ramos
Ramos is showing us some glimpses of Matthew Wright. The difference is, he is of course much younger. If he can be a better version of Matthew, Ramos could be our main gunner in the next decade.
#2 Justine Baltazar
I think the plan to utilize Baltazar as a small forward for our national team is an excellent possibility. Having a 6'8 small forward has never happened for our team.
#1 Kai Sotto
The reality is, Sotto is still our best hope as the foundation of our national team in the next decade. Also, succeeding to reach the NBA could be a huge boost to our future.
