Finally, the Philippine Basketball Association is set to start this year's season by July 16, 2021! They will run it much quicker than usual.
Last time, we provided the top breakout candidates! For this edition, let us talk about the opposites! Who are the best candidates to have a worse performance or to put up smaller numbers than last year?
We will do it per position. For today, let us start with the guards and wings.
GUARDS
Justin Melton
I think the choice of Jerrick Ahanmisi in the draft is a sign that Magnolia has realized the need for spacing. That could mean that the touches and minutes of Melton will be reduced.
LA Tenorio
Father time is undefeated. At 37 years old, I do not think Tenorio will be able to replicate 9.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game this year. Unless Standhardinger will be able to make his life way much easier.
Chris Ross/Alex Cabagnot
This is the easiest one. Either both or one of them will need to give in playing time and shots for CJ Perez. Other than that, father time is undefeated.
WINGS
Ryan Reyes
Same as the others above, father time is undefeated. The arrival of Mikey Williams could also lessen his potential playing time.
Jeff Chan
Brian Enriquez was raved by Ginebra and their fans as a very good 3-and-D guard. He can be the replacement for Jeff Chan. Will it be for the future, or will it happen already?
Marcio Lassiter
San Miguel did not want to let go of Von Pessumal in the CJ Perez trade. An indication that they see Von as a potential long-term piece. He plays the same role and position as Lassiter. Yes, he can be the next primary wing shooter of SMB.
